Circular Economy in the Alpine Food System
We are looking for partners to collaborate on a transnational project focused on enhancing circularity in the Alpine food system. The project aims to improve resource efficiency by identifying life cycle stages with the highest environmental impact (environmental hotspots) and assessing their potential for circular economy integration.
A core objective is to evaluate how circular economy principles can be incorporated into Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies, while also addressing region-specific data gaps in the Alpine region. This will support the development of simplified, accessible tools for circularity assessment, tailored to the needs of both researchers and practitioners.
We plan to develop a digital monitoring tool to track circularity metrics, offering actionable insights that enable data-driven decisions throughout the product life cycle. The project also includes a strong consumer engagement component, using tools such as QR codes in retail environments to communicate circularity performance transparently.
We will work with stakeholders across the food value chain (agriculture, processing, retail, gastronomy, and consumption) to implement and showcase circular best practices. Via a cross-sectoral approach, pilot studies will demonstrate the environmental and economic benefits of these measures, including food waste reduction initiatives in restaurants and retail settings.
Expected Outcomes:
– Improved resource management through digital circularity tools.
– Greater awareness among consumers and industry stakeholders.
– A transferable model for sustainable, circular food systems in the Alpine region.
We invite partners from various sectors, including research institutions, environmental organizations, food producers, retailers, policymakers, and technology developers, to join us in this project. If you are interested in partnering with us, please get in touch for more details.
