ALTBIO – ALTernative bio-based business ventures for a circular and resource efficient Alpine Space
The Technology Centre for Energy as lead is currently preparing a project proposal for the Interreg Alpine Space Classic Call.
The Alpine Space bioenergy sector holds significant potential to support circular, resource-efficient business models such as the breeding insects for sustainable animal feed and the cultivation of algae or mycelium for biobased packaging. These innovative opportunities offer promising pathways to diversify the sector, reduce environmental impact, and strengthen rural economies of the Alpine Space region, yet they remain largely unexploited. ALTBIO seeks to change this.
Limited awareness, a lack of expertise and support needed to pursue such opportunities, and an undeveloped market landscape are just some of the barriers that are preventing the wider uptake of these ventures. ALTBIO will equip stakeholders with the necessary knowledge, resources, and partnerships needed to exploit the untapped potential and transform niche bio-based ventures into viable, mainstream businesses.
