ALDA Italia APS is the Italian branch of ALDA – the European Association for Local Democracy, an international network established in 1999 by the Council of Europe to promote citizen participation and good local governance. Officially founded in 2022 and based in Vicenza, ALDA Italia plays a central role in advancing ALDA’s mission within Italy by supporting local authorities and grassroots civil society organizations through participatory methodologies, project development, and policy engagement. ALDA Italia’s work focuses on empowering local actors to engage with European values, funding opportunities, and sustainable development goals. It is actively involved in ALDA’s Thematic Hubs: civic engagement, migration, environment, digital, youth empowerment, inclusion and human rights, and local development—by fostering inclusive, democratic, and collaborative processes at the community level. Among its most impactful initiatives.
In the environmental field, ALDA Italia was awarded funding from the Cariverona Foundation under the 2022 Habitat Call for the project H.I.L.L. – Habitat In Living Landscape, which promotes biodiversity protection. More recently, the organisation has partnered in the implementation of two projects: Cura e Solidarietà. Prospettive dal basso (funded by the Waldensian Church) and RESPIRO – Networks for Empowerment and Health for the Promotion of Inclusion and Responsibility (Cariverona Foundation, Generative Welfare Call 2024). Both projects aim to strengthen services and networks for vulnerable populations. Thanks to its strong ties to the international ALDA network and deep roots in the Italian territory, ALDA Italia plays a significant role in the independent civil society landscape, contributing to innovative, inclusive, and participatory development both nationally and across borders.
